The term meme has been defined in various ways since Richard Dawkins coined the term in 1976.  Today, most definitions of meme henge on the original, which Dawkins described as “a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation” (Dawkins, 1976).  Memes can be ideas, actions, and gestures that spread throughout a society.   Some also believe that even the ‘tools’ or technologies that aid in the transmission of memes can be considered memes as well. read more »
